The crash is still under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol, but it has been confirmed that a Fort Collins woman has died on Terry Lake Road. Her death is Larimer County's 14th fatality on the roads this year. The Sept. 10 crash also sent her passenger and the driver of the other vehicle involved in the car crash to the hospital.
An SUV was traveling south on Terry Lake Road when it wandered off into the shoulder. The driver attempted to get back onto the roadway, but swung too far to the left and ended up in the northbound lane of traffic. The SUV ended up slamming into the driver's side of the Fort Collins woman's car.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger had to be stabilized at the scene and was then taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the SUV was also injured seriously. She, too, was taken to a local hospital after having been treated at the scene. The Colorado State Patrol hasn't yet indicated whether the driver of the SUV will be charged.
The woman that was driving the SUV will have a lot to answer for when she is released from the hospital. First, the possibility of criminal charges and also possible civil action from the family of the deceased woman and the injured passenger. Under our state law, the family may file a wrongful death claim and the passenger may file a personal injury claim in order to recover the costs and damages such as medical bills, funeral costs and pain and suffering sustained since the car crash.
