Colorado bus vs. car accident sends 6 to the hospital

A Colorado school bus was transporting four students recently when it became involved in a collision with a vehicle at an intersection. Three people suffered serious injuries, and three suffered minor injuries in the bus.vs. car accident. Police are still conducting a formal investigation into the cause of the crash.

The school bus was heading south in Yuma County on County Road FF, approaching the intersection of County Road 25. At the same time, a vehicle was heading east on County Road 25, approaching the same intersection. The preliminary evidence suggests that the bus entered the intersection before the eastbound pickup truck, and the pickup reportedly slammed into the bus. The impact caused the bus to flip, but fortunately, it landed upright.

Both drivers suffered serious injuries. One of the four children on the school bus also suffered serious injuries. The other three students were said to have suffered only minor injuries. Even so, all six were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The current conditions of those that were seriously injured is not known, but it is believed the other three students were released.

Luckily, all six individuals survived the accident. Nevertheless, the three seriously injured people could have a long recovery ahead of them. During that time, costs such as medical bills will be adding up. Depending on how long it takes the child to recover, at least one parent may have to take significant time off from work to care for the child. This, combined with the medical costs, could put a financial strain on the family.

Colorado law provides for the right to pursue personal injury claims where the evidence indicates one or more parties negligently caused or contributed to an accident resulting in serious injury. The parents of the child injured in this bus vs. car accident may file such a claim against the party or parties deemed responsible for their child's injuries. Moreover, it appears the bus driver may also have the right to initiate a claim for financial damages against the pickup driver. The bus driver's claim would likely be in addition to any workers' compensation benefits to which he may be entitled due to suffering a job-related injury.
