A Fort Collins, Colorado, man was struck and killed while riding his motorcycle in the northern portion of Loveland in the late afternoon on Saturday, Sept. 2. The 36-year-old victim initially survived being struck head-on by a Kia Sportage at 4:53 that afternoon. He was transported to the Medical Center of the Rockies suffering from multiple blunt injuries. Within 24 hours, though, he was dead.

In speaking with witnesses to the crash, police were able to determine that the 77-year-old driver of the Sportage had been traveling northbound along Garfield Avenue shortly before the accident occurred. As the woman approached that roadway’s intersection with 64th Street, she attempted to make a left onto it.

At that same time, the decedent was operating his motorcycle in the southbound direction along Garfield Avenue. The woman allegedly proceeded with her turn and, as a result, collided head-on with the biker.

The Kia’s driver was uninjured in the crash. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet when the crash occurred.

A spokesperson with the Loveland Police Department has come forward and said that they don’t suspect that drugs or alcohol played a role in causing the accident. They did note, however, that they’d presented the case to the Larimer County District Attorney’s Office to determine whether it’s necessary to file any criminal charges in this case.

Motorcyclists are at particularly high risk for suffering serious injuries because for many motorists, their streamlined appearance makes them difficult to see.

If your loved one was either seriously injured or killed because of another motorist’s negligence, then you may benefit from speaking with a Fort Collins, Colorado, motorcycle accident lawyer. In doing so, he or she can advise you of legal remedies you can pursue to recover medical expenses, funeral costs and lost wages.
