Reviewing the Colorado teen driving restrictions

If you have a teenager living in your household, you likely have been hearing nonstop about driving and getting a car. Your teen is legitimately excited to start a new part of their life. You, on the other hand, are probably wrought with fear and stress. Parents of teen drivers have trouble sleeping, worrying about their teen until they walk through the door. Let's review the Colorado teen driving restrictions in todays post.

Teenagers who only have a permit are not allowed to drive unless they are accompanied by a legal guardian, parent, driving instructor or an adult (21 or older) who has a license. The parent or guardian of the teen must authorize the licensed adult to drive with their teen.

No passengers are allowed in the teen's vehicle under the age of 21 for the first six months he or she has his or her license. This restriction is dropped when a parent or guardian is in the car with the teenager. The next six months allow only one passenger under the age of 21. The only exceptions are medical emergencies and siblings.

Teen drivers under the age of 18 are not permitted to use a mobile phone while driving. If caught, teens could risk losing their license and could be fined. The only exceptions are calls made for the police or the fire department.

All teen drivers have a curfew the first year they have a license. Teen drivers are not allowed to drive between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m. The exception here is if their parent or guardian is in the car with them. A driving instructor being in the car is another exception to this rule.

The driving restrictions imposed by the state of Colorado were created in an effort to reduce teen-related crashes and deaths. These laws should be learned and followed by every teen driver.
