Traumatic brain injuries: From minor to acute

A traumatic brain injury (TBI) changes your life immediately. While some injuries last only a short time before recovery, many have lasting effects. A TBI occurs when the head suddenly jolts forward or backward. At that point, the brain moves. If the head hits a surface, the brain may impact the skull. Even if the head only twists quickly, it's possible to suffer brain injuries from sheering as the brain can't keep up with the momentum of the skull.

A 36-year-old Fort Collins motorcyclist dies in a fatal car crash

A Fort Collins, Colorado, man was was struck and killed while riding his motorcycle in the northern portion of Loveland in the late afternoon on Saturday, Sept. 2. The 36-year-old victim initially survived being struck head-on by a Kia Sportage at 4:53 that afternoon. He was transported to the Medical Center of the Rockies suffering from multiple blunt injuries. Within 24 hours, though, he was dead.

Too many Coloradans driving under the influence of pot

The Colorado State Patrol reports that in the first quarter of this year, arrests for marijuana DUI decreased by about one-third from the number in the same period in 2016. However, state officials caution that this doesn't mean that fewer people are driving while under the influence of the drug, which has been legal for recreational use in our state for three years now.
